Delhi govt launches coding curriculum for school students
Delhi government has joined hands with EdTech startup Camp K12 to bring coding and other advanced skills to schools as a part of its Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSE) initiative. The Gurgaon-based EdTech is building a coding curriculum and providing resource personnel who will be implementing the courses in schools.
The SoSE schools are choice-based schools for grades 9 to 12 that allow students to specialise in their chosen fields of studies. The initiative aims to provide an education focused on high-end skills and entrepreneurship development, an official statement said. The students will also have the opportunity for experiential learning through projects, field visits, internships, etc. in their field of interest.
The enrolled students will also get the opportunity to participate in coding hackathons and inter-school contests as well as build real-world projects addressing problems in their communities, apart from having frequent interactions with industry experts from India and the US.
Himanshu Gupta, Director of Education, said that the Delhi government wants to equip the students with contemporary skills and give them exposure to cutting-edge technologies and Camp K12 fits the bill.
"Apart from providing schools with a ‘comprehensive technology solution’, the Camp K12 has also rolled out an ‘assessment engine’ through which student progress will be evaluated," he said.
“The partnership marks the beginning of a new era where we educate kids for life rather than for exams, where we push for skill-building over rote learning,” said Anshul Bhagi, Co-Founder/CEO of Camp K12.
