Juniper Networks has announced that its Session Smart Router (SSR) can be configured and operated via the Mist Cloud. The Session Smart Router by Juniper is a routing solution that has service-centric control plane and a session-aware data plane with modern routing functions.

Mist Cloud is Juniper’s cloud service, based on machine learning and artificial intelligence architectures.

Juniper also said that it has added enhanced IDS/IPS (Intrusion detection symptoms/ intrusion prevention systems) and URL filtering capabilities to its security suite.

The company said that the new enhancements will provide easier deployment, more secure operations and better troubleshooting capabilities for WAN (Wide Area Network) edge environments.

“Juniper has put considerable energy into advancing the first truly AI-driven SD-WAN solution born in the modern cloud. SSR is key to this mission, as it brings unique simplicity, scale, security and performance to WAN edge environments,” said Sudheer Matta, VP of products at Juniper.

The company described SSR as “a router that transcends inherent inefficiencies and cost constraints of conventional networking products and SD-WAN solutions”.

In October 2020, Juniper announced its intent to acquire 128 Technology, a software-based routing solutions provider. After the acquisition, the company bought AI-based operations to its portfolio through the Juniper Mist Wan Assurance Cloud Service.

The AI solution provided for features such as service level expectations, predictive insights, anomaly detection and automated troubleshooting, among others.

“Juniper is now completing the AI-driven SD-WAN vision by adding day 0/1 SSR operations into the Mist Cloud. This includes many of the configuration elements found in the current on-premises Session Smart Conductor,” the company said in a statement.

Juniper expects clients to have tools necessary for full lifecycle management of the branch networking stack, along with centralised actions, with the new features.
