French Gameloft partners with Winzo, to list Asphalt 9 on Winzo store
Vernacular gaming platform Winzo today announced a partnership with French gaming giant Gameloft. Under the partnership, Gameloft will list some of its popular games, including Asphalt 9 which has over a billion downloads worldwide, on Winzo’s platform — the Winzo Store. The homegrown firm claimed it has a user base of 65 million in vernacular markets in the country.
The French gaming firm has been distributing games to Indian users through the Google and Apple app stores for years now. According to Winzo’s announcement, India accounts for 12% of Gameloft’s overall user base, but only 0.6% of the company’s global revenue.
“More than 60% of our 65 million+ user base are premium paying users which makes us well positioned to help big global companies to increase their presence in India’s booming vernacular gaming market,” said Paavan Nanda, co-founder and chief executive of Winzo.
Further, the company said it hosts over 80 games in 12 vernacular languages and multiple formats in India right now. It claimed that the Winzo store facilitates over 2.5 billion micro-transactions per month, and there are over 300 game developers who have integrated their games on the Winzo Store so far.
This is not the first international partnership for Winzo either. The Delhi-based firm had announced a partnership with Voodoo, another well-known mobile gaming firm from France earlier this month. The company also announced a collaboration with investor Kalaari Capital on November 22, to launch The Gaming Lab, which will invest up to $1 million in early-stage startups.
