Bharti Airtel onboards Pradipt Kapoor as CIO
Telecom giant Bharti Airtel on Sunday appointed Pradipt Kapoor as its chief information officer (CIO). He is expected to drive the company’s overall engineering strategy and further Airtel’s digital vision.
As a member of the management board, he will report to managing director and CEO Gopal Vittal, a statement said.
“He (Kapoor) is an accomplished engineering leader and believes in creating value by enabling technology that is focused on outcomes. I am confident his experience will add immense value to Airtel’s digital vision,” Vittal said.
Kapoor has served as the global head of product and solutions engineering at AP Moller-Maersk, driving an organisation of 3,000. He has also spent over a decade at SITA UK, managing product engineering, and has formative experience as an entrepreneur.
He succeeds Harmeen Mehta, who quit the Sunil Bharti-led company after a seven-year stint -- she served as CIO for nearly two years.
“Harmeen (Mehta) has contributed immensely to Airtel’s digital transformation and helped build solid Engineering capabilities within the organization. On behalf of everyone at Airtel, I thank Harmeen and wish her the very best in her future endeavours,” Vittal said.
On the business front, Airtel has been actively working to establish its brand as a technology company. Recently, it partnered with AWS to launch Airtel IQ, a cloud communications solution for B2B clients.
