Explained: How APIs drive digital transformation

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently sought industry stakeholder views for the use of ‘open APIs for emerging technologies,’ signalling the importance of the technology in India’s growth trajectory. 

API (application programming interface) has been around for a while, but with the Covid-19 pandemic accelerating digital transformation initiatives, they have made organisations more nimble.

A recent report by San Francisco based API development platform Postman also showed that about 84.5% of companies undergoing digital transformation have APIs as a key component of their digitization journeys. Some 50% of those surveyed said that they would increase their investment in time and resources into APIs over the next 12 months. A third of the 13,586 API developers testers and executives surveyed said that APIs played a critical role in their ability to respond to the pandemic.
