SaaS startup Clumio launches research and development centre in Bengaluru
Santa Clara, California based software-as-a-solution startup Clumio, which focuses on data backup and protection solutions for enterprises, has announced the launch of its research and development (R&D) centre in Bengaluru.
Clumio has already hired 34 employees in India and aims to take the total headcount to 70 by the end of 2020, it said in a statement.
The research and development centre is a strategic investment for the company as it targets to innovate and build SaaS-based data protection solutions. The company is looking to hire for roles across software engineering, cloud operations and customer support, the statement added.
Clumio, co-founded in 2017 by Poojan Kumar, Kaustubh Patil and Woon Jung, has so far raised $186 million. It provides a secure backup as a service for enterprises that reduces the cost and replaces the complexity of managing data across all clouds with SaaS.
Its investors include Mike Speiser, managing director at private equity firm Sutter Hill Ventures, Mike Volpi, partner at venture capital firm Index Ventures, Mark Leslie, managing general partner at private investment company Leslie Ventures and John Thompson - Chairman, Microsoft.
"The existing generation of developers need to pivot their careers and learn how to build in the cloud. Building a great startup with a strong vision and taking it to fruition, on strong technical fundamentals, requires one to balance the exuberance and energy of youth with the direction provided by the steady steering of experience," Sandeep Soni, GM and vice president of engineering, India operations, Clumio said.
In India, Clumio will compete with companies like Rubrik, which is a cloud management firm led by Indian-origin founders and headquartered in Silicon Valley, California and Cohesity, which is also a California-based data management company.
