Urban Company buys Australian on-demand beauty startup Glamazon
UrbanClap Technologies India, which owns and operates home services platform Urban Company, has acquired the business assets of Sydney based on-demand beauty services platform Glamazon.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
This move by Urban Company (earlier known by the brand name UrbanClap) is in line with its plan to expand the scope of operations in the Australian on-demand home services market, a statement said.
Founded in 2016 by Lauren Silvers, Glamazon is Australia's first national real-time marketplace for beauty appointments. In 2016, Glamazon merged with another on-demand beauty app Glam Crew, founded by Lisa Maree. The merger added hundreds of freelance stylists registered on Glam Crew to Glamazon.
New Delhi headquartered Urban Company had launched its Australian operations last November. It currently offers home cleaning services through its mobile application and website.
“Urban Company and Glamazon have a completely aligned mission, to empower independent, mobile professionals to become entrepreneurs, enabling them to have successful freelancing careers,” Lauren Silvers, founder, Glamazon, said.
The deal will also see Lisa Maree exiting the firm while Lauren Silvers will lead the branding and marketing for Urban Company in Australia, the statement added.
“I am thrilled to be leading the branding and marketing for Urban Company in Australia, in addition to launching and leading the beauty and wellness services. Urban Company has the vision to become a household name synonymous with quality in-home services by 2021,” Silvers said.
Urban Company has over 25,000 independent service professionals, performing over 800,000 services every month across multiple geographies including Australia, India, the UAE, and Singapore.
"Australia is an attractive market and holds great promise for Urban Company with its demographic advantages. We believe that there is a huge opportunity for us to deliver high quality service in-home repairs and beauty services,” Abhiraj Bhal, co-founder, Urban Company, said.
