Chipmaker Marvell sets up research facility in Bengaluru
Santa Clara, California based semiconductor company Marvell has set up its new state-of-the-art facility in Bengaluru.
Marvell India is the company’s second largest research and development (R&D) centre, and is located at three sites – Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad. Apart from India, the company has R&D centres in the US, Germany, Israel and China.
The new 160,000-sq-ft facility in Bengaluru will focus on developing technologies and solutions for the global markets in the areas of server processors, security and server connectivity.
“While being a center of excellence across multiple specialities spread across several engineering organisations, we also plan to promote closer ties with top-tier academic institutions through collaboration on various touch points such as intern programs, research sponsorship as well as talent acquisition,” Pradip Thaker, India country head and VP, engineering, Marvell India said in a press release.
5G is a special end-market focus area for Marvell India. The company will tap into the local talent pool in areas of software, digital, analog and mixed-signal IC engineering, hardware and customer enablement functions.
Founded in 1995, Marvell is a global supplier of infrastructure semiconductor solutions with research and development facilities and other operations in 14 countries across three continents.
Marvell has over 10,000 patents worldwide and its solutions power innovation across infrastructure in markets that include LTE/5G, the data center/cloud, enterprise and the edge.
The growth of 5G is expected to boost investment in the semiconductor market. According to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), semiconductor sales totaled $ 481 billion in 2018 and will grow further 2020.
