Tech Mahindra, Business Finland partner for 5G,6G research
Pune headquartered information technology (IT) major Tech Mahindra has partnered with Business Finland, a government agency directed by the Finnish Minister of Employment and the Economy, for research and development in 5G and 6G technology.
While most countries are struggling to have a reliable 4G network let alone a commercially viable 5G one, Finland is already thinking about 6G. The country recently even hosted the world’s first summit on 6G technology.
The latest news of a tie-up with Tech Mahindra comes just days after University of Oulu in Finland signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IT services major Wipro.
Tech Mahindra will develop, pilot and implement state-of-the-art digital products and services to boost growth, productivity and innovations in the area of 5G and 6G, according to a statement.
The MoU was signed by Timo Harakka, Minister of Employment, Finland and Jari Gustafsson, Permanent Secretary of Economic Affairs, Finland at Tech Mahindra’s Noida campus.
Tech Mahindra will also set up an innovation lab in Finland to foster growth and innovation, the statement added.
Experts believe 6G technology will target speeds of 1 Terabytes per second. Advancements in material research, chip design and new computer architecture before the world gets a 6G network.
“The Finnish technology ecosystem is one of the most progressive in Europe. Their strategic focus on building ‘technologies for the future’ has been the cornerstone, and the initiative towards developing 6G technology and further working on 5G use-cases aligns well with our TechMNxt charter, which is our global initiative to leverage future technologies to solve real business problems,” said Jagdish Mitra, chief strategy officer and head of growth, Tech Mahindra.
Last month, The Pune-based company had launched a 5G enabled end-to-end business and technology solution, jointly developed with American networking technology major Cisco.
