Microsoft names Sriram Rajamani as MD of India Research Lab

Microsoft has appointed Sriram Rajamani as managing director of its India Research Lab. Rajamani, who will be based in Bangalore, replaces Chandu Thekkath who headed the unit for two years, the company said in a statement.

"Sriram is a renowned computer scientist with a proven research and managerial track record spanning 17 years in Microsoft's research organisation," said Jeannette Wing, corporate vice president, Microsoft Research Lab.

Rajamani's career has spanned various areas in computer science, ranging from hardware and software verification and programming language design to distributed systems, security and privacy, cloud security and probabilistic programming.

He is co-winner of Computer Aided Verification (CAV) 2011 award for his research in bringing formal verification of computer programmes to industrial practice. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) named him as an ACM Fellow in 2016 for his contributions to software analysis and defect detection. Previously, he was assistant managing director of Microsoft's India Research Lab where he joined in 2006.

Prior to joining Microsoft's India Research Lab, he headed the software productivity tools group within Microsoft's Redmond research lab. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley, a master's in computer science from the University of Virginia, and a bachelor of engineering in computer science from Anna University College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai.
