Why is Zee floating a free-to-watch OTT platform?
After DittoTV, broadcast company Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has come out with a second video streaming platform. Christened OZEE, this will be a free-to-watch OTT platform unlike DittoTV and will have catch-up content from Zee's bouquet of entertainment channels.
"While Ditto TV is a premium offering targeted at consumers who want content on the web first and are ready to pay for it, OZEE is meant for viewers in the age group of 18-24 years, who do not wish to pay for content on the web and thus watch a lot of pirated content," says Karan Jaitapkar, business head – OZEE, Zee Digital Convergence Ltd (ZDCL), the digital arm of ZEEL.
Apart from catch-up content from ZEEL's flagship channel – Zee TV besides &TV, as well as regional channels such as Zee Bangla, Zee Kannada, Tamil, Marathi and Telugu, OZEE plans to show movies, as well as music video produced by the Zee Group. With majority of the content telecast in Hindi and regional, the newly launched platform also has a few English programmes such as Look Who's Talking. The English chat show is produced by the broadcaster for its English entertainment channel Zee Cafe.
