All you wanted to know about Motorola's priciest handset Moto X Force

Lenovo-owned handset maker Motorola on Monday launched its costliest device in India since it re-entered the country two years ago.

The Moto X Force, which is the Indian version of Droid Turbo 2 in international markets, starts at Rs 49,999. The device's claim to fame is its 'shatterproof' screen that will save the phone from accidental drops.

The phone was spotted last week on Amazon India without any details on price or availability. While all Motorola phones are exclusively available on Flipkart, Moto X Force will be available on both Amazon and Flipkart and also at some leading retail stores including Croma and Spice, starting February 8.

ShatterShield display While smartphones are becoming thinner and lighter, their durability has been a matter of concern. With Moto X Force, the company promises a tough phone and claims the screen won't crack or break for up to four years.

Motorola calls it the Moto Shattershield Technology. It has integrated multiple layers of material into the device that help in absorbing shock and make it sturdy. It is built with the light-weight aluminum frame, ballistic nylon and has a soft rubber grip.

Under the hood The phone is not only well packed from outside, but from inside as well. It features a 5.4-inch Amoled Quad HD display. Powering the device is a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor bundled with 3GB of RAM. There is also a micro-SD card slot to expand the internal memory up to 2TB.

Like Moto X Play, the new handset is also water- and dust-proof. The phone is offered in 32GB and 64GB storage options. The 32 GB variant will cost Rs 49,999 while the second option carries a price tag of Rs 53,999.

The phone runs on Android version 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box. However, the Marshmallow update might be just around the corner.

Moto X Force also flaunts a 21-megapixel rear camera with 4K recording support and a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a front-facing flash. However, the phone doesn't have a finger-print scanner, like others in the same price range.

The device boasts a large 3760mAh battery that it claims runs up to 30 hours. That's not it, the Moto X Force comes with a turbo charger that gives 8 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes.

Motorola has established its position in the mid-range phone segment. It will be interesting to see how it works out for the Chinese maker when its Moto X Force competes with other high-end smartphones in this price range, including Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Apple iPhone 6S and Google Nexus 6P.
