Niche digital media startup HRKatha hires sales & marketing head

Niche news portal HRKatha has hired former Banyan Netfaqs executive Arunima Bhattacharya as it sales and marketing head.

Bhattacharya was national sales and marketing head of Banyan Netfaqs Pvt Ltd which owns and runs B2B advertising, marketing and media site, afaqs.com.

Founded in January 2015 by Prajjal Saha, former executive editor of afaqs, HRKatha is a business-to-business (B2B) online news website which provides news and information on the human resource industry.

The news portal is also getting into events with the rollout of its first event called 'Future of Jobs' in March this year.

"The HR industry so far has magazines and one or two blogs which earn their revenue from subscription. The content on our site is free to read. Hence we are now adding events to generate extra revenue," says Prajjal Saha, founder and editor, HRKatha.com.

The news portal, which is run by Interpreting Markets Pvt Ltd, is currently self-funded, and has an advertising-led business model. The company claims to have business management consultancies such as Red Hot Mirchi Consulting Pvt Lt, Success Works HR Solutions Pvt Ltd and TheFullerLife as its advertisers.

According to Saha, the traffic on the site is growing at a rate of 20-30 per cent month-on-month and currently it generates two-three million page views per month.

The portal has offices in Delhi and Mumbai, and is looking at opening an office in Bangalore.

Saha is not the only journalist to walk the digital path. In the last one year, many popular names in the business of media and journalism have founded their own digital startups. The latest to join the gang are Shekhar Gupta, former editor-in-chief of English daily The Indian Express, and Barkha Dutt, consulting editor of NDTV, who have floated their digital media startup The Print.
