Health-tech startup MeraDoctor gets pre-Series A funding from Unilazer
Mumbai-based mHealth Ventures India Pvt Ltd, which runs a virtual consultation platform called MeraDoctor, has raised $1 million (Rs 6.7 crore) in its pre-Series A round led by Ronnie Screwvala's Unilazer Ventures.
Existing investor India Quotient also participated in this round.
The fresh capital will be used for improving the technology platform, scaling up the doctor base and adding to the technology and management teams.
The company had earlier raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from India Quotient, Aavishkaar and Accion Venture Lab.
The Mumbai-based startup allows users to chat live and consult with a primary healthcare physician. Every patient gets one free consultation per month after which he/she is charged at Rs 150 per consultation and can keep getting free consultations by sharing the app with family and friends. The company claims to have helped over 3 lakh people since its launch.
MeraDoctor was founded in 2011 by Ajay Nair and Gautam Ivatury. Nair is a physician and Harvard University graduate whereas Ivatury is co-founder of Signal Point Ventures and one of the early CFOs at SKS Microfinance, at one time India's top microlender.
A similar player in the field is DocsApp, which also offers medical consultation.
