FreeCharge appoints ex-Airtel Money exec Anshul Kheterpal as CFO
Snapdeal-owned digital payments platform FreeCharge has appointed Anshul Kheterpal as its chief financial officer.
In his new role, Kheterpal will help craft strategies for the payments business at FreeCharge and Snapdeal and closely work with the senior leadership teams to strengthen the digital payments business.
Kheterpal has previously worked as the CFO and principal officer for Airtel Money. He has over eight years of work experience across finance, strategy, operations and treasury in the mobile commerce, digital payments and telecom sector.
"With FreeCharge's aim to be the digital OS for the payments business in India, Kheterpal joining us will further strengthen our senior leadership team," said Kunal Shah, CEO and co-founder of FreeCharge.
In September this year, FreeCharge appointed Sudeep Tandon as its chief business officer. Starting off as an online recharge and utilities payment provider in 2010, FreeCharge added a mobile wallet in September. It claims to have about 10 million users for its digital wallet service. The digital wallet service is aiming for a 35-million user base by March 2016.
FreeCharge, run by Mumbai-based Accelyst Solutions Pvt Ltd, was acquired by Snapdeal in April this year. Snapdeal did not declare the deal value but separate media reports had pegged the deal value at $300-400 million, making it one of the biggest acquisitions in the internet businesses in India.
FreeCharge competes with companies such as Paytm, MobiKwik, Oxigen and PayU. Paytm is the largest player in the mobile wallet space with more than 100 million wallet users. EasyMobileRecharge and ReChargeItNow are its competitors in the recharging business.
