Snapdeal ropes in Hardeep Singh from Airtel as infrastructure head

E-commerce marketplace Snapdeal has appointed Hardeep Singh as the head of infrastructure, the latest in a string of top level executive hires for the company. Singh will be responsible for crafting strategies to make the company's supply chain future ready, and also handle network design, infrastructure and special projects it said.

Singh has over two decades of experience in supply chain operations including – planning, warehouse management, driving process excellence, supply chain technology integration, end-to-end solutions design and implementation. Earlier, he served as head of supply chain and infrastructure at Bharti Airtel. Prior to that, he had been CEO of Inlogistics, a private container train operator, and also worked at Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints and Madura Fashion & Lifestyle.

He holds a master's degree in operations management from S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research and an engineering degree from University Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.

"Hardeep comes with many, many years of rich experience in diverse and complex aspects of SCM. He will help us lay out the road map for our future supply chain management systems," said Rohit Bansal, co-founder of Snapdeal.

Snapdeal, run by Jasper Infotech Pvt. Ltd., that raised $500 million in fresh funding led by iPhone manufacturer Foxconn, Alibaba and SoftBank last month, has been on a hiring spree as it seeks to bolster its platform and compete better with more funded and financially strong rivals Flipkart and Amazon.

Singh happens to be the third significant executive the firm has brought in from telco Bharti Airtel. Early this year, it had hired Anand Chandrasekaran and Govind Rajan, as the chief product officer and chief strategy officer, respectively.

Snapdeal has also hired several other executives lately. Former Adobe executive Rajiv Mangla was appointed as the chief technology officer recently.

The company also hired former Procter & Gamble (P&G) executive Amit Choudhary as its senior vice president – corporate finance; Gaurav Gupta as VP of engineering; Jeyandran Venugopal from Yahoo as technology advisor; Bhuvan Gupta as VP of engineering; Vivek Patankar as senior vice president – finance from Unilever.
