Indian Angel Network invests in ethnic lifestyle products e-tailer Shopatplaces
High City Retail Private Limited, which runs shopping portal under Shopatplaces offering ethnic wear and other lifestyle products, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Indian Angel Network.
The company will use the funds to improve marketing and for rolling out an app.
It will also foray into the personal care category and cover all 29 states for its product portfolio by August-end, a press statement said.
Shopatplaces was founded in 2012 by Sherfur Rahman, an MBA from NITIE who has previously worked as a supply chain and investment banking professional, and Zuhaib Khan, who has worked with JP Morgan, Mape Advisory and Casa Capital.
Shopatplaces currently offers products in apparel, bags, jewellery, shoes, home decor and fragrances categories. It showcases specialised products such as Pashmina shawls, Filigree jewellery from Odisha, Brass jewellery from Uttar Pradesh, Tussar silk stoles from Jharkhand, Chikankari apparel from Lucknow and others products procured from places that are famous for making them.
"We plan to improve our marketing to reach our target customer segment and scale up the technology front-end and back-end infrastructure. An app will be rolled out for customers to shop on the go," said Zuhaib Khan, one of the co-founders.
The investment was led by IAN's B Hari, who has also joined Shopatplaces' board. "At IAN, we are excited with Zuhaib and Sherfur's passion, enthusiasm and business acumen to build a great company. Shopatplaces is poised to pioneer the online shopping experience of specialty merchandise from across the nation and then from across the globe," said Hari.
