Peesh Venture Capital invests under $1M in ed-tech startup MeetUniv

MeetUniv-(1)Early-stage investment firm cum startup accelerator Peesh Venture Capital has invested Rs 6 crore ($9.5 million) in Noida-based Beyond Horizons EduConnect Pvt Ltd, which offers an online platform for searching information and applying to overseas colleges under the brand MeetUniv, it said on Tuesday.

MeetUniv has been accelerated at TLabs, a Times Internet Ltd initiative. The ed-tech portal is also backed by the CampusEAI consortium based out of Cleveland, US.

It is a college search and information platform designed to help Indian students seeking higher education outside the country. It also provides personalised guidance and direct engagement with universities to its users.

Another funded player in the business is Indian Angel Network (IAN)-backed AM Edumedia Pvt Ltd, which runs IndiaCollegeSearch.com, an online search engine for Indian colleges and universities.

MeetUniv, on the other hand, focuses on international universities and colleges. The portal offers a listing of around 3,000 colleges & universities and claims one of the largest course information listing of 40,000 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses from USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore and other countries.

"It is a market space which has not been explored appropriately and has a lot of potential to solve the problems faced by the Indian aspirants," Peesh Chopra- managing director, Peesh Venture Capital, noted.

Peesh Venture Capital was launched last year by Chopra (managing partner), a theology graduate from Columbia University. Prior to this, he has worked at Kryptos Mobile and also founded Student Online (latter sold to a US-based PE firm).

This is its debut investment in India, having recently added the country as a target market to invest out of its $50 million early-stage fund. The firm has already backed a few US-based startups- Serosoft Solution, Campus Bubble, GI Group, Easy Education and BlackBelt Help.

It had recently also launched an accelerator programme in India and opened two branches of PVC Accelerator in the country at Bangalore and Gurgaon.
