Bharti Airtel says its music streaming app Wynk crosses 5M downloads
Wynk Music, a carrier agnostic mobile music streaming application by telecom giant Bharti Airtel, claims that it has crossed five million downloads within five months of its launch. The telecom major had launched the app on September last year.
According to the company, expert curated playlists are more popular than the albums with about one third more clicks and 'romantic' mood is the most popular amongst all the mood-based playlists, besides new releases. In terms of cities, Mumbai topped charts with the maximum users followed by Delhi and Karnataka as a state.
The company claims to be offering over 1.8 million songs across eight languages including Hindi, English, Bhojpuri, Bangla and Telugu. It has exclusive music previews partnership with Sony Music label for some of their collection of songs.
An ad-free app, Wynk is currently available only on Android and iOS platforms. The latest app version also features support for Google Chromecast which allows users to enjoy browsing through the app and playing music from their TV screens.
With the free version, users can stream music of their choice online and tune into internet radio. The premium version Wynk Plus allows users to download and listen to unlimited music, and also play it offline. Wynk Plus is available at Rs 99 per month on Android and Rs 60 on iOS platforms.
Airtel has also launched a package exclusively for its mobile subscribers. Called Wynk Freedom, the service is available at Rs 129 per month, and will also users to get all inclusive unlimited streaming and downloading of music without incurring additional data charges. A user can also purchase a song or album starting Rs 5 per song. It also has caller ring back tone features.
Wynk Music competes with the likes of Saavn, Gaana and Hungama among others.
