VCCircle_Aisle_logoAisle Network Pvt Ltd, which runs a matchmaking site for urban Indians under the same name, has raised $100,000 in seed funding from a group of angel investors including Anand Vijay of Microsoft and Shashank Mehrotra of BigRock, among others.

The funds will be used for hiring talent, with special focus on the technology team.

The startup was founded in 2014 by Varun Joseph Kurien. It is a curated platform for urban Indians seeking long term relationships. The site claims to have over 4,000 users across 30 countries. Kurien has a BBM degree from Garden City College, Bangalore.

"Existing matchmaking sites are either dating apps used by a casual set of users or matrimonial sites that are used more by parents rather than people who might be interested in pursuing a relationship," Kurien said.

"We on the other hand are not a matrimonial website, but a social network for single Indians from around the world," he added.

Chennai-based TermSheet was the curator of the deal. TermSheet is an online platform for startups to connect with accredited investors. It claims to have already processed a high-profile deal involving Flipkart co-founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal (not related). This is TermSheet's second deal and it is also working on three other seed deals.

The online dating space in India has been gaining a lot of investor interest in the recent past. Last month, Delhi & Singapore-based Thrill Pte Ltd, a mobile dating startup which runs its apps on Android and iOS platforms under the Thrill banner, raised an undisclosed amount from People Group, which owns matrimonial portal Shaadi.com, for a significant minority stake.
