SlideShare co-founder Amit Ranjan quits LinkedIn, may lead e-gov app project for the government

Amit Ranjan, co-founder of presentation sharing platform SlideShare, which was acquired by professional networking site LinkedIn in 2012, has quit the company, he said in a blog post last weekend.

With this development, the entire founding team of the startup has exited LinkedIn. Its other co-founders Rashmi Sinha and Jon Boutelle had left in May and August last year, respectively. The company did not respond to mails and messages sent by Techcircle.in.

Ranjan did not talk about his next moves but The Economic Times had said last month that he is expected to join the Department of Electronics Information Technology (DeitY) for creating applications for government projects. The report further mentioned that Ranjan has been roped in by PM Narendra Modi, to lead an open source organisation for government projects as its CEO. He is likely to start from February this year.

Ranjan founded SlideShare in October 2006 along with Rashmi (his sister) and Boutelle (brother-in-law). He has an MBA from FMS Delhi and had earlier also worked with companies such as PepsiCo, Asian Paints and Godrej.

San Francisco-based SlideShare enables professionals to upload content for free, discover people through content and vice versa. With it, users can upload presentations publicly or privately, download presentations on any topic and reuse or remix, embed presentations on blogs, websites, company intranet or share them on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and even embed YouTube videos inside SlideShare presentations, among others.
