Micromax launches Canvas Hue smartphone for Rs 10,999 in India; Lenovo's Tab 2 A7-10 budget tablet available for Rs 4,999
Home grown handset and tablet manufacturer Micromax has further expanded its Canvas range of smartphones in India with the launch of a new device. Christened Canvas Hue, the device comes with a 5 inch display and runs on the Android operating system. The smartphone has been priced at Rs 10,999 and it will go on sale in the country on January 16, 2015.
"With the launch of the Canvas Hue, we have again looked at addressing one of the most important needs of the Indian consumers, which is an extended battery life," said Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax.
In addition, Lenovo has also launched a new tablet in the Indian market called Tab A7-10. Showcased at Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2015 earlier this month, this one sports a 7 inch display and runs on the Android OS. Targeted at the budget segment of the market, the tablet is available for purchase exclusively on Snapdeal.com for Rs 4,999.
"The new tablet offers the build quality and reliability of the Lenovo brand at an affordable price point. We have partnered with Snapdeal.com for the first time to tap their reach across the length and breadth of the country," said Rohit Midha, director, tablet business unit, Lenovo India.
Canvas Hue for Rs 10,999
The smartphone sports a 5 inch HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display (1280x720 pixel resolution) and runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB (5.46GB for apps and mass storage) that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.
Canvas Hue has an 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera with Flash that can record HD videos (720p) at 30 fps, and a 2MP front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The company has provided a 3,000 mAh battery with the device, which it claims will provide up to 9.5 hours of talk time and 280 hours of standby time.
The smartphone has FM Radio, dual-SIM capability, and GPS (with A-GPS support). It is available in white (with gold) colour. Micromax has also pre-loaded a number of apps in the smartphone that include Amazon, Hike, M! Live, Opera, Truecaller and Saavn, among others.

This one has a 7 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display (1024×600 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system (upgradable to Android Lollipop). It is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT8127 quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.
A7-10 comes with a 0.3 megapixel fixed-focus front camera but no rear camera. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 189 mm x 105 mm x 9.3mm and its weight is 269 gm. Lenovo has provided a 3,450 mAh battery in the device, which it claims will provide up to 8 hours of battery life and 200 hours of standby time. It also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support), and is available in ebony black colour.
