Samsung launches quad-core Galaxy S5 mini with Super AMOLED display, 4G LTE & more for Rs 26,499 in India
After unveiling the same in July this year, Samsung has finally launched Galaxy S5 mini- a compact version of its flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone- in the Indian market. The device is outfitted with a smaller 4.5 inch display (in comparison to the 5.1 display of S5), allowing for easy operation with only one hand. It has been priced at Rs 26,499, and is available for purchase exclusively on Indian e-commerce major Flipkart.com (taking a cue from Motorola and Xiaomi are we!).
The e-commerce company is also providing a number of launch day offers with the device, which include 100 per cent cash back to 25 lucky customers; free preselected Flipkart eBooks worth Rs 2,000; and a Sennheiser HD 180 headphone worth Rs 740 free of cost.
Here is a look at the specifications of the device.
The smartphone has a 4.5 inch HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display (720×1280 pixels resolution) with 326 ppi pixel density and runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and has 1.5GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB that can be further expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card.
Galaxy S5 mini comes with an 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second, and a 2.1MP front facing camera for video calling that can also record FHD videos. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G & 4G LTE (depending on the region), as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot.
The dimensions of the device are 131.1mm x 64.8mm x 9.1mm and its weight is 120gm. Samsung has provided a 2,100 mAh battery in the smartphone, which also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and Near Field Communication (NFC). It will be available in charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold colours.
Additional features of the smartphone include IP67 certification which basically means it is dust and water resistant, an ultra power saving mode, a heart rate monitor, S Health app, as well as a fingerprint scanner.
Galaxy S5 vs. S5 mini
In comparison, big brother Galaxy S5 is powered by a 1.9GHz Exynos octa-core processor. Users will get a choice between 16 and 32GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card. It comes with a fingerprint scanner and dust- and waterproof capabilities. The smartphone offers a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) and comes with a 16MP camera with improved menu and user interface. It also gets a 2.1MP front-facing camera.
The Galaxy S5 runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) operating system and also adds a heart-rate monitor just below the camera module. On the connectivity front, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, Infrared and NFC, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 142 mm x 72.5 mm x 8.1 mm and its weight is 145 gm. The company has provided a 2,800 mAh battery in the device, which it claims will provide up to 21 hours of talk time and 390 hours of standby time.
