Airtel rolls out over-the-top carrier-agnostic music streaming service Wynk Music

Telecom major Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of Wynk Music, an over the top (OTT) music streaming service that works across mobile operators.

Wynk is currently available only on Android and iOS platforms. With the free version, users can stream music of their choice online and tune into internet radio. The premium version Wynk Plus allows users to download and listen to unlimited music, and play them offline. Wynk Plus is available at Rs 99 per month on Android and Rs 60 on iOS platforms. For Airtel customers, Wynk Plus is available at Rs 29 per month for a limited period.

Airtel has also launched a package exclusively for its subscribers. Called Wynk Freedom, the service is available at Rs 129 per month. It also allows subscribers to get all inclusive unlimited streaming and download of music without incurring additional data charges. A user can also purchase song or album starting Rs 5 per song.

Wynk Music is an ad-free app and has a vernacular user interface.

"With the proliferation of smartphones in the country, mobile phones have emerged as the most preferred platform when it comes to experiencing music on the go and accounts for almost 85-90 per cent of total digital consumption. We are introducing this segment to Wynk, an innovative platform that blends technology and music and present a whole new dimension to music uptake in the country," said Srinivasan Gopalan, director (consumer business) at Airtel.

Airtel claims to have over 1.7 million songs across eight languages including Hindi, English, Bhojpuri, Bangla and Telegu. Wynk Music competes with players such as Gaana and Saavn.
