Amazon launches digital wallet for gift & rewards cards, but not available in India
World's largest e-commerce company Amazon Inc. has launched a digital mobile wallet app, called Amazon Wallet, which enables users to store the details of their gift, reward and loyalty cards so that they can access them anywhere any time. The app, however, doesn't support credit/debit cards or mobile payments as of now.
The app is currently in beta, and is available on iOS and Android platforms. The service is not available in India yet.
According to a description on Google Play Store, users can scan or type in the details of gift cards, loyalty cards and membership cards to their Amazon Wallet. Once scanned into the app, users can bring up cards as bar codes or QR codes for using at merchant outlets.
Amazon has also launched a website for the wallet service, where users can log in and add other gift cards to their account to have them appear in the mobile app. Here, they can manage their other payment methods including credit/debit cards which can be used while shopping on Amazon.com.
