Mobile workplace firm Workspot raises $6.5M in Series A funding from Helion, Translink, Qualcomm
California-headquartered Workspot Inc, a provider of mobile-based workspace-as-a-service solutions to enterprises, has secured $6.5 million in Series A round of funding led by Helion Venture Partners, with participations from US-based Translink Capital, besides existing investor Qualcomm Ventures.
"This funding will enable us to tackle the needs of the evolving mobile enterprise and allow us to scale up on bringing our 100 per cent cloud-based solution to more end users and IT administrators," said Amitabh Sinha, co-founder of Workspot.
The company was founded in 2013 by Sinha (CEO), along with Puneet Chawla (CTO) and Ty Wang (vice president). An alumnus of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Sinha was earlier vice president (merger incubation) at Citrix Systems. Chawla is an alumnus of University of Florida and an investor in Helpshift and Tagtile. An alumnus of University of Michigan, Wang was vice president (business development) at Twilio.
Workspot is a mobile workspace that delivers a personal and immersive mobile user experience. It enables employees to access their business applications and data from a secure workspace on any device, including iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows PC and Mac. The firm has created a cloud-based solution for IT administrators called Workspot Control, and a mobile application for Android and iOS end-users, called Workspot. The Workspot app is a unified workspace, allowing end users to easily access their data and applications behind a firewall from any mobile device.
Previously, Workspot had raised a $3.3 million in seed funding from Qualcomm Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Norwest Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Webb Investment Network, besides a few angel investors.
"Workspot is tackling a universal problem faced by IT departments of all sizes in the post-PC era; employees' increasing use of mobile devices to work, secure and gain seamless access to business applications and data has become a major challenge. Most of the competing solutions are antiquated and rooted in complex on-premise infrastructure that only superficially touches the cloud," said Ashish Gupta, senior managing director at Helion Ventures.
"Workspot has built an elegant solution that provides great user experience, but also simplifies the deployment for IT. The Workspot solution is ready for early adopters of mobile technology in Korea, Japan and Greater China," said Toshi Otani, co-founder and managing director at Translink Capital.
A tech startup fund, TransLink Capital is focusing on mobile, social and cloud applications, infrastructure and services.
