After Mi3, Xiaomi launches Redmi 1S & Redmi Note for Rs 6,999 & Rs 9,999 in India

Within days of making its debut in the Indian market, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has now launched two more devices in the country. The company had earlier launched its flagship device Mi3, which is currently available for pre-order (goes on sale on July 22) on Indian e-commerce major Flipkart.com for Rs 13,999.

Christened Redmi 1S and Redmi Note, the new devices have been priced at Rs 6,999 and Rs 9,999 respectively. Similar to Mi3, they run on the Android operating system, which can be fine-tuned with custom-built themes, built-in apps and widgets, and robust settings options. While an exact date of availability for the devices has not been disclosed by the company, both of them will be available exclusively on Flipkart.

Redmi 1SRedmi 1S for Rs 6,999

The smartphone sports a 4.7 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen display (1280x720 pixels resolution). It runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system that has been optimised with MIUI. Powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8228 processor with Adreno 305 GPU, the smartphone has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

It has an 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED Flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second, and a 1.6MP front facing camera for video calling that can also record HD videos. On the connectivity front, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 3G, as well as a microSD card slot. The smartphone comes with dual-SIM capability and has GPS (with A-GPS support).

The dimensions of the device are 137mm x 69mm x 9.9mm and its weight is 158gm. Xiaomi has provided a 2,000mAh battery in the device. It will be available in red, black and white colours.

Redmi NoteRedmi Note for Rs 9,999

This one has a 5.5 inch HD IPS touchscreen display (1280x720 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android Jelly Bean operating system optimised with MIUI. It is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MTK MT6592 processor with ARM Mail-450 GPU, and has 2GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

It has a 13MP autofocus rear camera with LED Flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 fps, and a 5MP front facing camera for video calling that can also record HD videos. Additional features of the camera include face recognition, high dynamic range (HDR), and real-time filters, among others. The phablet comes with dual-SIM capability and has GPS (with A-GPS support).

On the connectivity front, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 3G, as well as a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 154mm x 78.7mm x 9.45mm and its weight is 199gm. Xiaomi has provided a 3,100mAh battery in the device that it claims will provide up to 14 hours of internet usage (on 3G), 60 hours of music playback and 775 hours of standby time.

Apart from the smartphone and phablet, the company has also listed its Mi Power Bank in two capacities of 10,400 and 5,200mAh on its site, however, a pricing for the same has not been disclosed.

XiaomiIn 2012, Xiaomi sold 7.2 million smartphones, and then more than doubled this number to 18.7 million handsets last year. The company is now looking to increase this number to 40 million handsets this year, and has already sold over 26.1 million smartphones in the first half of 2014.

Apart from Xiaomi, other Chinese smartphone manufacturers that already have a presence in the country include Gionee and Oppo.
