Lenovo A7-30 tablet launched in India for Rs 9,979; Swipe Konnect 5.0 available for Rs 8,999
Earlier this month, Lenovo had launched A7-50, a 7 inch tablet offering targeted at the mid-price range segment of the Indian tablet market. The company has now further expanded its range of tablets with the launch of A7-30, this one being a budget tablet. While A7-50 was priced at Rs 15,499 (it's available on a number of e-commerce stores as low as Rs 14,699), its younger sibling A7-30 can be purchased for under Rs 10,000 (Rs 9,979 to be exact).
The other tablets available in Lenovo's stable include Ideapad A1000L (Rs 6,849), Ideapad A1000 (Rs 9,159), Ideapad A2107 (Rs 9,975), Ideapad A3000 (Rs 15,499), Yoga Tablet 8 (Rs 21,999) and Yoga Tablet 10 (Rs 28,999).
In addition, Indian tablet and handset manufacturer Swipe has also launched a new Android smartphone. Christened Konnect 5.0, the device is available for Rs 8,999. Here is a look at the specifications of the devices.
An Android tablet, the highlight of the device is the fact that it comes with a SIM-card slot, which basically means that it also has voice calling functionality. Although it is a little hard to imagine someone going around making/receiving calls on such a large screen. The tablet has a 7 inch capacitive touchscreen display (600x1024 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system (upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat).
It is powered by a 1.3 GHz MTK 8382M quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card. A7-30 comes with a 2 megapixel fixed-focus rear camera that can also record videos and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling.
On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 119.8 x 198 x 10.5mm and its weight is 327 gm. Lenovo has provided a 3,500 mAh battery in the device that it claims will provide up to 8 hours of battery life. It also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and dual stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus. It will be available in white colour.
Swipe Konnect 5.0 for Rs 8,999
This one has a 5 inch qHD touchscreen display (540x960 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

Swipe Konnect 5.0 comes with an 8MP rear camera that can also record videos and a 3.2MP front-facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 74 x 148 x 8.9mm and its weight is 135 gm. Swipe has provided a 1,950 mAh battery in the device, which also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and dual-SIM capability.
In its price range, it will face competition from a number of budget smartphones launched by home grown vendors like Micromax, Karbonn and iBall, among others. But the biggest competition will be from Motorola's very successful entry-level smartphone offering Moto E that is available exclusively on Flipkart.com for as low as Rs 6,999.
