After Micromax, XOLO takes on Motorola, launches Q1200 for Rs 13,999 in India
It is no secret that Motorola's budget and mid-price smartphone offerings Moto E and G have been hugely successful in India. The devices have been selling like hot cakes, so much so that Flipkart.com- the e-commerce site that is exclusively selling the device in the country- has gone out of stock of the devices on more than a few occasions.
Last month, home grown handset and tablet manufacturer Micromax had launched Unite 2 for Rs 6,999 to take on Motorola's budget smartphone offering Moto E. Now XOLO has joined the party with the launch of its Q1200 smartphone, which is a direct competitor to Moto G. The device has been priced at Rs 13,999 and will be available for purchase starting tomorrow.
Here is a look at the specifications of the device.
The smartphone has a 5 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen display (720×1280 pixels resolution) with 294 ppi pixel density and is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MTK 6582 quad-core processor. It runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system (upgradable to 4.4 KitKat), and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB that can be further expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.
Q1200 comes with an 8MP autofocus rear camera (with Exmor R Sensor) with dual flash that can also record full high definition videos (1080p), and a 2MP front facing camera for video calling. Additional camera features include High Dynamic Range (HDR), Low Light enhancement, face recognition, vertical & horizontal panorama capture, and Geo tagging. On the connectivity front, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot.
The dimensions of the device are 144.8mm x 71.4mm x 6.85mm and its weight is 143 gm. XOLO has provided a 2,000 mAh battery in the device that it claims will provide up to 9 hours of talk time and 418 hours of standby time. It also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and gesture support- which enables its users to simple wave their hand to unlock the device, browse pictures, change videos and jump tracks without touching the screen.
In terms of competition, Q1200 will face off against the likes of Karbonn Titanium S4 (Rs 13,900), Nokia Lumia 625 (Rs 14,200), and Sony Xperia L (Rs 14,212), among others. However, the biggest competitor for the smartphone will be Moto G, which is available for Rs 12,499 and Rs 13,999 for the 8 and 16GB models respectively.
Q1200 Vs Moto G
In comparison to Q1200, Moto G sports a 4.5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display (720×1280 pixels resolution) with 326 ppi pixel density and is powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. It runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system (upgradable to 4.4 KitKat), and has 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8 and 16GB of internal memory that is non-expandable.
The smartphone comes with a 5MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash that can also record high definition videos (720p) at 30 frames per second, and a 1.3MP front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and a microUSB port. The dimensions of the device are 129.9mm x 65.9mm x 11.6mm and its weight is 143 gm. The company has provided a 2,070 mAh battery in the device, which also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and FM radio.
Hence, at least on paper, XOLO's offering is a better device than Motorola's offering. However, how it fares in real-world use case is something we will have to wait and see.
