Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, Lenovo has now launched the S860 phablet in the Indian market. The device runs on the Android operating system and comes with a mammoth 4,000mAh battery, which is a lot for a smartphone/phablet (at least on paper). The phablet has been priced at Rs 21,499 and will be made available for purchase later this week.
In addition, home grown manufacturer Lava has further expanded its Ivory range of tablets with the launch of IvoryS. The tablet joins the ranks of E-Tab Ivory, which Lava had launched last year, and is available for purchase for a price of Rs 8,499.
Here is a look at the specifications of the devices.
The phablet sports a 5.3 inch IPS HD LCD capacitive touchscreen display (1280×720 pixel resolution) and runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS (upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat). It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor and has 2GB of RAM. The internal memory of this device is 16GB, but further memory expansion is not available.
Lenovo S860 has an 8MP autofocus rear camera with LED Flash that can also record videos, as well as a 1.6MP front facing camera for video calling. The dimensions of the device are 149.5mm x 77mm x 10.3mm and its weight is 190gm. The company has provided a 4,000mAh battery in the device, which it claims will provide up to 43 (2G) and 24 (3G) hours of talk time and 40 (2G) and 28.5 (3G) days of standby time. It will be available in titanium colour, courtesy its brushed unibody metal exterior.
The company has also provided a number of premium apps in the device including SHAREit: enables sharing of photos, apps and more across devices without network charges or Wi-Fi connection; SECUREit: speeds up the device & protects it against viruses, spam and malware; and SYNCit: allows users to back up & restore all their contacts, SMSes and call logs.
In the price at which it is offered, the phablet will compete with the likes of Gionee Elife E6 (Rs 21,630), Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 (Rs 20,191), XOLO Q3000 (Rs 19,999), and Intex Aqua i7 (Rs 19,849), among others.
