MakeMyTrip's Manish Kalra joins Amazon India as integrated marketing head
Manish Kalra, who quit as the marketing head of NASDAQ-listed online travel services firm MakeMyTrip (MMT) early last month, has joined Amazon India as its head of integrated marketing, according to a report by Afaqs, quoting sources. Kalra will be based out of Amazon's headquarters in Bangalore. However, there is no official confirmation on the new development.
Kalra joined MMT as its marketing head (offline media) in 2010. He was then promoted as the overall marketing head in January 2012. Prior to joining MMT, he was leading the marketing efforts at Dell India. He had also earlier worked at companies like PepsiCo (territory development manager) and Citibank. He holds a PGDBM degree in marketing and finance from XLRI Jamshedpur, and a BE degree in mechanical engineering from Punjab Engineering College.
Amazon, which forayed into India early last year, is one of the leading online marketplaces in India. Late last year, the firm also rolled out premium shipping services in the country whereby customers will get guaranteed delivery of their items for a fee. However, the guaranteed delivery options are available only for items fulfilled by Amazon. The firm will also offer its in-house logistics services, for order fulfilment for retailers running other ecommerce sites. With a fulfilment centre in Delhi, the firm is now set to open another centre in the country in Bangalore.
