XOLO launches quad-core smartphone offering Q1100 for Rs 14,999 to take on Moto G
Within days of the exclusive launch of the mid-priced Moto G on Flipkart.com, Lava's sub-brand XOLO has also launched a new smartphone in the same price range. Christened Q1100, the smartphone is also powered by a quad-core processor. Prior to this, the company had launched Q700S, the successor to the Q700, for a price of Rs 9,999. In comparison, Q1100 is available for purchase for Rs 14,999. Here is a look at the specifications of the device.
The smartphone has a 5 inch IPS HD touchscreen display (1280x720 pixels resolution) with 294 ppi pixel density, and runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system. It is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM 8228 processor and has 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB of internal memory that can be further expanded an up to 32GB with a microSD card.
Q1100 has an 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera with Flash (and BSI 2 sensor) that can also record high definition videos (720p). Additional features of the camera include scene detection & tuning, High Dynamic Range (HDR), face recognition, vertical & horizontal panorama capture, and geo tagging, among others. It also comes with a 2MP front facing camera for video calling.
The dimensions of the device are 143.8mm x 70.8mm x 8.3mm and it comes with dual-SIM support. On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, 3G, and comes with a microSD card and microUSB port. The company has provided a 2,000 mAh battery in the device, which it claims will provide up to 24 hours of talk time and 600 hours of stand by time. It also comes with assisted GPS and is capable of full HD video playback (1080p).
In terms of competition, its biggest one will be in the form of Motorola's Moto G, which is available for Rs 12,499 (8GB) and Rs 13,999 (16GB). This one sports a slightly smaller 4.5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display (720×1280 pixels resolution) with 326 ppi pixel density and is powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. It runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system (upgradable to 4.4 KitKat), and has 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8 and 16GB of internal memory that is non-expandable.
Moto G comes with a 5MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash that can also record high definition videos (720p) at 30 frames per second, and a 1.3MP front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and a microUSB port. The dimensions of the device are 129.9mm x 65.9mm x 11.6mm and its weight is 143 gm. The company has provided a 2,070 mAh battery in the device, which also comes with GPS (with A-GPS support) and FM radio.
While XOLO's offering looks better on paper, being a Google smartphone, Moto G offers the advantage of always being one of the first devices to receive Android software updates. Other devices available in the same price range include Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A200 (Rs 14,490), Intex Aqua Curve (Rs 12,490), Iris Pro 30 (Rs 15,499), iBall Andi 4.7G Cobalt (Rs 15,499), and Karbonn Titanium S7 (Rs 14,999), among others.
