Flipkart names Mekin Maheshwari as HR head; Siddharth Das is now PayZippy COO

India's largest e-commerce player Flipkart has named Mekin Maheshwari, head (PayZippy and eBooks), as chief people officer (CPO) who will lead the HR function at the company, as per his LinkedIn update.

The new was first reported by The Economic Times. The firm has also appointed Siddharth Das as COO of PayZippy, its payment gateway service, said a separate Medianama report, citing a spokesperson.

A BE in Information Science from Visvesvaraya Technological University (Karnataka), Maheshwari took over as CPO last month. Previously, he headed PayZippy and eBooks at the firm. He joined Flipkart in September 2009 as head (engineering). Prior to joining the Bangalore-based company, he was director of engineering at Lulu.com. In the past, he had also worked at Ugenie and Yahoo.

Siddharth Das worked as COO of High Mark Credit Information Services. In the past, he had also worked at Fair Isaac Corp, Acxiom Corporation, Oracle and Tenfold Corporation.

The company launched the B2B version of PayZippy in July last year. Last month, it announced the extension of the service to end users, who can now store their card details and make payments on partner merchant sites.

Early this month, Flipkart launched its lifestyle private label 'Flippd' which is currently offering men's T Shirts, slippers and shoes through Flippd, and will soon add women's apparel, sunglasses and watches. A few days ago, the company had hired close to 120 IIT graduates.

Last October, Flipkart had raised $160 million in fifth round of funding from Belgium-based Sofina, US-based Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Dragoneer Investment Group and Vulcan Capital, along with participation from existing investor Tiger Global. This was in addition to $200 million from Naspers Group, Accel Partners, ICONIQ Capital, Tiger Global, in the first tranche of the same round, which started in July last year.
