Excl: TravelKhana secures funding from Google India head Rajan Anandan
New Delhi-based Duronto Technologies Pvt Ltd, the company that owns and operates TravelKhana, an online food delivery service for Indian Railways' commuters, has raised an undisclosed amount in funding from Google India head Rajan Anandan, a source close to the development told Techcircle.in.
"Anandan co-invested along with Delhi- and Bangalore-based Palaash Ventures in a funding round in September-October this year," the source said. We tried contacting TravelKhana CEO Pushpinder Singh as well as Anandan for the details, but they did not respond till the time of publishing this article. Palaash Ventures spokesperson declined to comment.
Early last month, we had exclusively reported Palaash Ventures' investment in the company.
TravelKhana was founded in 2012 by Singh, a BITS Pilani graduate who also holds a B Tech in engineering from IIT (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi. Prior to setting up this venture, he was CTO at INCA Informatics. In the past, he had worked with Lotus Interworks and Sopra Consulting in various positions.
Travelkhana enables railway commuters to order food online or over the phone. Passengers can select the food of their choice from restaurants along the route they are commuting. The restaurants are selected and verified by TravelKhana personnel and the platform tracks train status, and coordinates food preparation time with the restaurant to ensure that the passengers receive meals on their seats. TravelKhana said on its official Facebook page that it has served more than 1 lakh railway commuters so far.
Apart from making standalone investments, Anandan is also a member of Indian Angel Network. Some of his recent investments include SnapLion.com, Mobilewalla, Airwoot, Aurality and DataWeave Software.
