Homegrown handset manufacturer Micromax has finally launched its flagship handset Canvas 4 in the Indian smartphone market. The company started pre-booking for the device late last month (June 28) and claimed that it received 4,000 orders on the first day itself. Launched at an event in Delhi today, the Android smartphone comes with a 5 inch display and is priced at Rs 17,999. According to the company, it has received 11,500 pre-bookings for the smartphone till date.
Here is a look at the specifications.
The smartphone features a 5 inch IPS HD touchscreen display (1280x720 pixels resolution) and is powered by a 1.2 GHz MT 6589 quad-core processor. The device runs on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system and has 1 GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16 GB, which can be expanded up to 32 GB with a microSD card.
On the camera front, this one sports a 13 mega pixel autofocus rear camera with Flash that can also record videos and a 5 MP front-facing camera that can record videos as well. The camera also comes with a number of scene modes and a continuous burst mode, among other features. In terms of connectivity, the device has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 3G, as well as a microSD card slot and a microUSB port.
It measures 144.5mm x 73mm x 8.9mm and weighs 158 gm. According to Micromax, the smartphone's 2,000 mAh battery will provide up to 8 hours of talk time and over 9 days of standby time. It also has FM radio, GPS (with A-GPS support) and Dual SIM support. Canvas 4 will be available in grey & white colours and the company is also providing a special aluminium cover (worth Rs 3,000) as part of the package.
Karbonn Titanium S9
This one features a 5.5 inch IPS HD touchscreen display (1280x720 pixels resolution), which is half an inch bigger than the Canvas 4, and is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. The device runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system and has 1 GB of RAM. The internal memory amounts to 16 GB, which is expandable up to 32 GB with a microSD card.
Interestingly, Titanium S9 also has a 13 mega pixel autofocus rear camera with Flash that can record videos and a 5 MP front-facing camera that can record videos as well. In terms of connectivity, the device has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 3G, and also comes with a microSD card slot.
While the exact dimensions of the smartphone are not available yet, the company has provided a 2,600 mAh battery. The device also has GPS (with A-GPS support) and Dual SIM support. It will be available in white colour and the company is providing a free flip cover with the smartphone. Karbonn Titanium S9 is priced at Rs 19,990.
As you can see, both smartphones are neck and neck in terms of specs, but the major differences lie in screen size and battery. Hence, the deciding factor for us will be the pricing. At Rs 17,999, the Micromax Canvas 4 is almost Rs 2,000 cheaper than its competitor and users looking for a large screen Android Jelly Bean experience on a Quad-core processor can opt for it.
