Zomato generated over 95% of revenues from ads in FY13, up from 78%
Zomato Media Pvt Ltd, which runs the restaurant listing site Zomato.com, became more dependent on ad revenues in the last financial year as the growth in income from ads on the site outpaced event ticketing by a mile.
Overall, the firm generated revenues worth Rs 11.37 crore from operations in FY13, as against Rs 2.04 crore in the previous year. Techcircle.in had reported the overall numbers last month. But now Info Edge (India), the majority owner of Zomato, has disclosed further details in its annual report.
The firm has three revenue channels – ads, event ticketing and restaurant booking. The firm does not officially offer restaurant booking but as per a separate report by MediaNama, it represents revenue from restaurants for customer leads generated through Zomato.
Ad revenues grew almost 7 times, from Rs 1.59 crore in FY12 to Rs 10.88 crore in FY13. This represented 95.7 per cent of the total operational revenues of the firm. Ads had contributed around 78 per cent of revenues in the previous year.
Event ticketing, a business that Zomato entered in late 2011, showed a relatively modest growth. The firm clocked revenues of Rs 27.4 lakh in FY12, which grew around 22 per cent to Rs 33 lakh in FY13. In event ticketing, Zomato competes with big players such as BookMyShow and KyaZoonga, among others.
Restaurant booking, apparently a small revenue channel for Zomato, saw decline in income from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 15 lakh in FY13.
