Dell India appoints Alok Ohrie as president and MD
Dell India has named Alok Ohrie as its president and managing director. In this role, Ohrie will be responsible for driving the company's growth in the Indian market as well as developing and delivering end-to-end solutions for global and Indian corporations, and state governments.
"India is strategic to Dell both as a market as well as for its service delivery capability. I am very excited to join Dell in leading the company's transformation to be a top technology solutions provider in India and reinforce its position as an employer of choice in the country," Ohrie said.
He replaces Sameer Garde, the previous president and MD of Dell India, who has now moved on to pursue career opportunities outside the company.
Ohrie has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry. Prior to Dell, he led IBM's Systems and Technology Group (STG) in India, a position he held since January 2010. Under him, the team strategically grew the business and developed robust server, storage, networking and systems software solutions for its enterprise, small and medium businesses (SMBs), government and public sector customers. Prior to joining IBM, Ohrie was president of EMC India and SAARC region and also worked for AMD as vice president of business development and managing director of India. He had a previous stint with IBM which spanned over 13 years. He also worked with Wipro Infotech.
Amit Midha, president, Asia Pacific and Japan, and chairman, Dell global emerging markets, said, "We greatly appreciate the significant contribution Sameer has made to Dell and the India business. We are confident that Ohrie will help Dell continue the momentum of being a leading provider of end-to-end solutions in India."
