Network18's Firstpost acquires satire portal Faking News
Indian satire portal Faking News has been acquired by Network18′s online news portal Firstpost.com for an undisclosed amount.
Firstpost announced the acquisition here. "Faking News readers should be confident that in keeping with Firstpost tradition, Faking News will remain as outspoken as ever. We are very excited about this product integration and feel that our digital efforts for you the reader, will only be richer, at a time when India is so ready for it," said Firstpost.
A report on MediaNama stated post the acquisition, Faking News will remain as a stand-alone entity. Faking News founder Rahul Roushan will remain as its editor, Durga Raghunath, VP (Products) at Web18 told MediaNama.
Faking News was founded in 2008 as a blog by Rahul Roushan. "It was clear that the 'next step involved finding the right partners for growth, and growth in the right direction. Faking News had to continue being a 'news satire' website and not lose its focus. And after a lot of thinking and evaluating various options, I decided to go ahead with Firstpost," Roushan said in the post about the acquisition.
Roushan was working at Pi Communications as director before starting Faking News. For eight months in 2012 he worked at Affle as head-content services.
