Srei Group arm launches e-com portal SahajShopping.com for rural consumers
Sahaj e-Village Ltd, a subsidiary of Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd, a business integrator in the field of IT infrastructure focused on rural India, has unveiled an e-tailing portal, SahajShopping.com in partnership with Ahmedabad-based e-commerce firm Infibeam. The site targets rural consumers in the country.
The rural consumers can select products from categories like mobiles, watches, books, music, etc from the portal and collect them at the nearby Sahaj Common Service Centre. These centres are already operational across the country and are part of the government's e-governance project.
The portal would be available only to authorised Sahaj village level entrepreneurs, according to a company statement. As of now, the service is available across 50 Sahaj Jan Seva Kendras in Uttar Pradesh. Sitting in Delhi, we could not access the e-com site and ascertain if it works on a closed ecosystem like the Intranet.
The statement did not reveal the role of Infibeam in the venture but the Ahmedabad-based firm, which runs a horizontal e-com portal of its own, also helps others set up e-shops through its Buildabazaar platform. Early this year, Techcirle.in reported that Infibeam has quietly integrated a marketplace to its e-com site, which means that apart from selling products on its own, it now also allows other vendors to sell the same products with same or different pricing through the site.
