Online toy store Wopshop shuts down; two co-founders now with startup Pokkt
Online toystore Wopshop.com appears to have shut shop within a year of launching operations. The site which was started by Rohit Sharma, former chief executive officer of Reliance Entertainment (Digital), and two of his former colleagues Vaibhav Odhekar and Sanjeev Singhal, is not accessible last we checked and the URL leads to a message page saying: 'site not available'.
The shutdown was first reported by Medianama.
We are trying to contact Sharma and we will update the copy as we hear from him. Few days back he had told Techcircle that the site was down due to some 'technical reasons'.
The site seems to have joined the roster of e-com firms who have either shut down or merged with others in the face of shrinking venture capital funding in the sector.
Techcircle had first reported on the new venture by Sharma and his team. It was not the only player in the vertical which catered to both by niche toy sellers as well as established baby products e-tailers who also stock toys.
Although the LinkedIn profile of Sharma and Odhekar still says they are part of Wopshop, the duo have joined hands with another partner and launched a voucher startup Pokkt. The site claims to be 'Transactional Advertising Platform' which rewards customers with exclusive offers from online/offline retailers in return for sharing information to advertisers.
Pokkt was part of five startups shortlisted for funding from the inaugural batch of GSF Accelerator, a part of the Global Super Angel Forum and founded by former Reliance Entertainment president Rajesh Sawhney.
Meanwhile, the third co-founder of Wopshop, Singhal had joined education startup Iprof Learning Solutions as its CTO last August, as per his LinkedIn profile.
