Gruner + Jahr, the publishing division of European media conglomerate Bertelsmann AG that had acquired a majority stake in Networkplay, has appointed Ampreet Singh as the CEO of Networkplay. The appointment follows the exit of Rammohan Sundaram, the founder, as the CEO of the company. In his new role as CEO, Singh will be responsible for the overall strategy and direction of Networkplay's business.

Singh has been with the company since its early days. Prior to co-founding Networkplay, he has worked with companies like Nokia Interactive Advertising, Yahoo India and Tribal DDB. He will continue his current duties as VP, distribution & client servicing and production director of Ad:Tech India at Networkplay, in addition to his new role.

Torsten-Jörn Klein, president of Gruner+Jahr International, said, "Ram will continue to be Advisor to the NetworkPlay Board and also continue to be the Chairman for ad:tech India." Sundaram also talked in detail about his exit in an official company blog post.

Networkplay was incubated in 2008 by digital advertising agency WebChutney and was funded by Capital18, the venture capital arm of the Network18 group. It is one of India's fastest growing digital ad networks with a leading presence on the internet, mobile and DTH platforms and partnerships with advertisers and publishers. The company has also brought global event franchises such as ad:tech and iMedia Summits to India, in partnership with dmg::events, an international events company that manages over 80 events in over 25 countries.

Interestingly, the development happened within two days of Gruner + Jahr's acquisition of Smile Vun Group's (a joint venture between Manish Vij's Vun Network and Harish Bahl's Smile Group) mobile ad network Seventynine.
