Lightspeed, Matrix back LimeRoad.com, a social shopping platform for women
LimeRoad.com, claimed to be the country's first social shopping platform for women, has been launched today in a bid to usher in an engaging and interactive shopping experience. Owned and operated by Gurgaon-based A.M Marketplaces Pvt Ltd, the portal allows shoppers to buy by city, brand or flagship store while one can also browse and connect with shops, brands and retailers. Unlike traditional e-commerce portals, LimeRoad sports the look and feel of a magazine where shoppers can actually flip the pages to view the featured products.
The venture, backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Matrix Partners India, has been set up by Suchi Mukherjee, who had earlier worked with the executive management team of Skype, along with Manish Saksena, former COO of Tommy Hilfiger India, and Ankush Mehra, former head of supply chain at Reliance Hypermarkets.
Commenting on the launch, co-founder & CEO Suchi Mukherjee said, "We are on a journey to build the most extensive and engaging lifestyle platform ever. Our sole objective is to make the shopping experience on LimeRoad so delightful, that we become the online destination for women to find gorgeous yet affordable products."
Even on debut day, LimeRoad features several categories, such as apparel, footwear and jewellery, as well as home and kitchen accessories, organic snacks, beauty and fitness products and stationery.
"We believe that there are varied retailers pan-India who deserve to be in the spotlight. We are creating a pipeline for these brands to be revived and re-connected with consumers, although through a new medium and in a curated way – just like a woman shops, combines and creates a distinct style of her own," said Saksena, president and co-founder of the startup.
