Tata DOCOMO introduces TwittCom, enables VAS activation via Twitter
Tata DOCOMO, the unified telecom brand of Tata Teleservices Limited (TTL), has introduced a Twitter application for its pre-paid customers (GSM) which enables them to activate value added services (VAS) through the micro-blogging site Twitter (with use of #Hashtags). The app is called Twittcom and has been developed in-house at TTL.
For using the app, Tata DOCOMO subscribers will have to first register their mobile numbers. This can be done by going to the Twitter handle of the company (@tatadocomo) and typing in #reg <mobile number>. Once this is done, the subscribers will receive a pin code for verification (through SMS) which they will have to type in the company's Twitter handle- #code <pin code>. Once this is done, they will get a retweet confirming registration and they are good to go.
For activating value added services (VAS), subscribers will have to visit the company's handle and type in #act# <service><value>, after which they will get a tweet back confirming activation of the service. Note that the amount for the activation of the service will be deducted from the customer's available balance so make sure you have enough before subscribing to a particular service.
Ritesh Ghosal, head of brand marketing at TTL said, "With the increasing consumption of Internet and the rise of social media, it makes ample sense to be present on the medium where people are spending time at present or they are likely to spend time in the future."
Late last year, TTL had unified its GSM and CDMA brands (Tata DOCOMO and Tata Indicom) into one common brand- Tata DOCOMO. The company then partnered with Exent, a US-based provider of games-on-demand, to launch an all-you-can-eat mobile game subscription service in India called 'Let's Play'. And early this month, it inked a deal with Snapdeal to launch Deal Zone- that allowed Tata DOCOMO GSM subscribers to get SMS alerts on a range of products and services like restaurants, spas, electronic goods, etc.
