Senior Google exec joins 2-month-old startup Dropmyemail; What it offers

Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar, a senior conversion specialist at Google (South-east Asia), has left the Internet giant to become the head of product development at Dropmyemail, owned by the Singapore-based startup Dropmysite Pvt Ltd. Prior to joining Dropmyemail that offers a Cloud-based e-mail backup solution, Vijeyakumaar was with Google for five years, but he also has a passion for working with new companies and earlier worked with two startups. Interestingly, the startup claims to have more than half-a-million users within two months of its launch.

What's Dropmyemail and how it works

Founded by John Fearon, a marketing professional-turned-entrepreneur, Dropmyemail is a standalone service which backs up a user's e-mail on the Cloud.

Users have to sign up with their e-mail id and once the account is created, a back-up of email messages, contacts, calendar and chats is created automatically.

In a freemium model, Dropmyemail offers 500 MB of storage free (lifetime) and annually charges $9.99 for 5 GB and $19.99 for 10 GB storage. Users also get an additional 256 MB storage free per referral who signs up.

The features offered in these packages are the same and include file encryption, backup IMAP accounts, backup pop accounts, e-mail migration and restoration, weekly snapshots, daily snapshots, access to support forum and support via e-mail. The company claims to have added half-a-million users, of which 20 per cent are from India alone. The startup has been funded by Singapore-based Crystal Horse Investments, but it is looking to raise a Series A funding to the tune of $10 million.
