Lenovo Unveils IdeaTab S2 109, An Android 4.0 Tablet
Lenovo has taken the wraps off yet another Tablet and this time around it is a 9.7 inch offering called IdeaTab S2 109. The Tablet has a 9.7 inch (1024x768 pixel resolution) IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display and runs on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. Although the resolution of the Tablet is decent, it is only half of what is being offered in the new iPad from Apple. The Tablet could be powered (details not available) by NVIDIA's Tegra 3 processor since the company has earlier used NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processors.
The exact RAM and internal memory of the device has not been disclosed by the company, but in all probability it will come with 1GB of RAM and the internal memory could be 8 or 16GB, which will be expandable an additional 32GB with a microSD card. The device has a 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera for video calling and on the connectivity front; it has Wi-Fi and comes with a microUSB and a microHDMI port. Since it is an Android powered device, Google Play will naturally be available, which means users will have access to over 4,50,000 apps.
Early this year, the company had launched a 10 inch Tablet called IdeaPad S2 that came with an optional keyboard dock (like the ASUS Transformer Prime) and was powered by the Android ICS OS. The Tablet had a LED-backlit IPS display (1280x800 pixel resolution) and was running on a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. Additionally, it had 1GB of RAM and came with a 5 mega pixel auto-focus rear camera.
The IdeaTab S2 109 is only 8.9mm thick and it has a unibody shell which comes with 'gunmetal finish'. The company has provided four SRS TruMedia-branded speakers in the device which it claims will provide stronger bass and better sound. The company also promises 10 hours of battery life for the Tablet which we personally feel could be a little farfetched.
Here's an introductory video of the Tablet
The price of the device is not available as of now, but considering its specifications (the ones that we have), it will be targeted at the mid-price range segment which is Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. The Chinese computer manufacturer had first entered the Indian Tablet market late last year by launching two Tablets (IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad) and announcing a third one (IdeaPad tablet A1). But the company failed to capture the imagination of the Indian consumers who are divided in their loyalty between the Samsungs and Apples at the top end and the low-cost offerings by local vendors. Let's hope they can do better in their second outing.
