It Rained Quad-core Smartphones From HTC, LG & Huawei At MWC 2012
The Mobile World Congress, 2012 in Barcelona has come to an end, and hence we bring to you an update on all the mobile phones launched, announced or unveiled at the event. Earlier we had written about handset giants Nokia, Sony and Samsung and this time around we will cover LG, HTC and Huawei.
HTC
There were 4 phones from HTC at the MWC, 2012 this year- One X, One XL, One S and One V. We will talk about most of them briefly and only discuss the most prominent one.
The mobile phone has a 4.7 inch Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen (720×1280 pixel resolution) display and it runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system (OS) with HTC Sense user interface. It is the most powerful mobile phone from HTC till now and it is powered by a 1.5 GHz Quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor (yup, expect it to be a bomb). It has 1GB of RAM and the internal memory of the device is 32GB.
It comes with an 8 MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second (fps) and a front facing 1.3 MP camera for video calling that can also record HD videos (nice). On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port. Additionally, the device comes with Near Field Communication (NFC), A-GPS support and Beats audio.
The dimensions of the device are 134.4mm x 69.9mm x 9.3mm and its weight is 130 grams. The device has a 1,800mAh battery that should provide decent battery life. It will be available in black and white colours and is expected to be launched in Q2, 2012. The device is available for pre-order on a UK based site for around Rs 39,000 (converted from British pound) which is not a bad price considering the power it packs inside.
The other three mobile phones are all dual core handsets and should be launched alongside big brother One X in Q2, 2011. The UK prices of the devices are (all converted from British pound) Rs 35,000 for One S and Rs 21,000 for One V, while One XL's price was not available as of now .
LG
The company was on a spree at the MWC, 2012 and showcased a number of handsets (6 to be exact) at the event. These included Optimus 4X HD, Optimus 3D Max, Optimus Vu, Optimus L7, Optimus L5 and Optimus L3.
LG Optimus 4X HD
The mobile phone has a 4.7 inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen (720×1280 pixel resolution) display and like HTC One X, this also runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS (sans the HTC Sense UI of course). This device is also powered by a 1.5 GHz Quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. It has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
It comes with an 8 MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 fps and a front facing 1.3 MP camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port. Additionally, the device comes with A-GPS support but no NFC.
The dimensions and weight of the device were not available as of now but its thickness is 8.9mm. The device has a 2,140mAh battery (which is good) that should provide decent battery life. It will be available in black colour and is expected to be launched in Q2, 2012. The exact launch date and price of the device in the Indian market is not available as of now but the same UK website has the phone up for pre-order for around Rs 36,000.
All the other devices from the company are dual core handsets and should be launched one after the other in the coming months.
Huawei
Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei came in strong at the MWC, 2012 with not one but two Quad core entries, the Ascend D quad and the Ascend D quad XL. The other mobile phone showcased by the company was Ascend D1, a dual core phone.
Huawei Ascend D quad XL
Although Huawei Ascend D quad and the Huawei Ascend D quad XL are almost identical phones in terms of specifications and design, Huawei Ascend D quad XL is a littler plumper and heavier than its sibling but it also scores a little more in terms of specifications.
The mobile phone has a 4.5 inch LCD+IPS capacitive touchscreen (720×1280 pixel resolution) display and it runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. This device is powered by a 1.5GHz Quad-core processor (in comparison to 1.2GHz Quad-core processor in Huawei Ascend D quad). It has 1GB of RAM and comes with 8GB of internal memory.
The rear camera in the device is an 8 MP auto-focus camera with dual LED flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 fps (guess this is standard now in the high-end devices) and a front facing 1.3 MP camera for video calling that can also record HD videos (720p). On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v3.0, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port. Additionally, the device comes with A-GPS support (another thing standard these days) but no NFC.
The dimensions of the device are 129mm x 64mm x 10.9mm and weight of the device is 150 grams (it is thicker and heavier than the Huawei Ascend D quad by 2mm and 20 grams respectively). The device has a 2,500mAh battery (which is very good) that should provide good battery life. It will be available in metallic black and ceramic white colour and is also expected to be launched in Q2, 2012. The price of the device should be over Rs 35,000.
Some other companies that also showcased their mobile phones at the event included Panasonic, Alcatel, ASUS, Acer and ZTE. That is all for our coverage of mobile phones at the MWC, 2012, but keep track of this space for more on Tablets.
