Loading...

YouTube has recently announced on its official blog the addition of four new Indian languages- Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam and Telegu to the earlier list of Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali and Tamil. Full user interface of the website will be available in these languages apart from regional channels giving in relevant regional content.

This new addition takes up the total number of languages available on the website to 58.

The entire user interface of the site will be available in these languages, besides new regional channels which will offer related content. But, the process remains the same, user has to select the language from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page where the name of the languages are listed.

Currently, for Telugu, there are more than 100 films and there are partners like cooking channel Gayatrivantillu. For Kannada, Shemaroo Kannada and Anand Audio have been brought in whereas for Malayalam, Metro Matinee Videos and Hungama Malayalam will be available on YouTube.

The website has also partnered with TV9 which provides news in both Kannda and Gujarati.

This comes as yet another push by YouTube(and thereby Google) to penetrate the Indian Internet market. Local languages expands the scope of coverage and usage beyond the English speaking audience, specially in regional markets.

Sometime back, YouTube enabled video editing facility for the videos uploaded on the site. The new editing functions allows users to make changes to their uploads to polish them. According to the company, users can either choose to enhance their existing videos while maintaining the video's ID, or save a new copy by creating an entirely new video with their edits (through save as).
