Nokia's 41MP Camera Phone, Samsung's Projector Phone & More From MWC 2012
The ongoing Mobile World Congress, 2012 in Barcelona is a hot-bed for companies looking at launching, announcing or unveiling new products. In this article Techcircle.in brings to you a round-up on the latest mobile phones announced by handset giants Nokia, Sony and Samsung. The Indian pricing and the availability of the devices are not yet available, so we will update you on how they stack up against the existing phones and whether they are even worth buying when we get to know about it.
As expected, the world's largest handset maker (ya still!) and the most desperate to showing its mojo in smartphone market, Nokia has made quite a few announcements at the MWC, 2012, but the one that takes the cake is Nokia 808 PureView. The other devices officially announced by the company include Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 900 (that we have written about earlier), Asha 302, 203 and 202.
The most unique feature of this mobile phone is that it comes with a gigantic and unheard of before 41 mega pixel (MP) camera!
The mobile phone has a 4 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (360×640 pixel resolution) display and it runs on the Nokia Belle operating system (OS). It is powered by a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor, has 512MB of RAM and the internal memory of the device is 16GB.
It comes with a 41 MP autofocus rear camera (Carl Zeiss optics) with Xenon flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second (fps) and a front facing VGA camera for video calling that can also record VGA quality videos. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v3.0, Wi-Fi and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port. Additionally, the device comes with Near Field Communication (NFC), A-GPS support and has Stereo FM radio with RDS.
The dimensions of the device are 123.9mm x 60.2mm x 13.9mm and its weight is 169 grams. The device has a 1,400mAh battery that the company claims will provide 11 hours of talk time and 465 hours of stand-by time. It will be available in black, white and red colours.
Samsung Galaxy Beam
Although Samsung has made quite a few Tablet launch announcements at the MWC, 2012 (which we will discuss in a different article), its latest smartphone in the form of Galaxy Beam has not been too exciting. This is especially when people were expecting the company to unveil its next generation Galaxy S III smartphone with a Quad-core processor.
The highlight of Samsung Galaxy Beam is that it comes with an in-built projector that can project 50 inch wide high definition images.
The mobile phone has a 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (480×800 pixel resolution) display and it runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (with TouchWiz user interface v4.0). It is powered by a 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor, has 768MB of RAM and the internal memory of the device is 8GB expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card.
It has a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash that can record HD videos (720p) at 30 fps and a 1.3 MP front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v3.0, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port.
The dimensions of the device are 124mm x 64.2mm x 12.5mm and its weight is 145.3 grams. It has a 2,000 mAh battery, and it comes with A-GPS support and it will be available only in black.
Sony Xperia P and Xperia U
Sony has also unveiled two new smartphones called Xperia P and Xperia U. The new smartphones are basically siblings of big brother Xperia S (read here for more) and both will be made available in the market in Q2, 2012.
The mobile phone has a 4 inch LED backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen (540×960 pixel resolution) display and it runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (with the company's Timescape UI). It is powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor, has 1GB of RAM and the internal memory of the device is 16GB (out of which only 13GB available to the user).
It comes with an 8 MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash that can record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 fps and a front facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v2.0, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port and a HDMI port. Additionally, the device comes with NFC, A-GPS support and has Stereo FM radio with RDS.
The dimensions of the device are 122mm x 59.5mm x 10.5mm and its weight is 120 grams. The device has a 1,305mAh battery that the company claims will provide up to 6 hours of talk time and 470 hours of stand-by time. It will be available in black, silver and red colours.
The mobile phone has a 3.5 inch LED backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen (480×854 pixel resolution) display and it also runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (with the company's Timescape UI). Like Xperia P, it is also powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor, but has only 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.
It comes with a 5 MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash that can record HD videos (720p) at 30 fps and a front facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v2.0, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port similar to Xperia P but doesn't have a HDMI port. Additionally, the device doesn't have NFC, but has A-GPS support and Stereo FM radio with RDS.
The dimensions of the device are 112mm x 54mm x 12mm and its weight is 110 grams. The device has a 1,320mAh battery that the company claims will provide up to 6 and a half hour of talk time and 260 hours of stand-by time. The smartphone will come with exchangeable bottom caps in white white, black, pink and yellow colours.
