Snapdeal Now On Mobile; COD Also Available
Daily deals site Snapdeal has launched its mobile site. The new WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) portal works on every mobile phone (that has internet) and allows users to browse through products by selecting different categories (that also have sub categories) that include Today's Deal (shows the deals offered on that particular day); Deals Near Me (shows deals near the user's current location); Product Deals (deal on products like mobiles, men's apparel, computers, electronics, footwear, books and movies, among others); and Travel Deals (deals on travel).
"You can easily browse through products by selecting different categories and sub categories. There is also an option of searching for offers at restaurants, spas and other entertainment avenues, which are nearby any location," as per a Snapdeal blog post.
After entering the site, users have to select the city they want to see the deals in and they also have the option for registering their mobile numbers for receiving deal alerts for their cities. The mobile site also offers various payment options and users can choose to either pay from their credit and debit cards or pay via by cash on delivery (COD). But we wonder why the company has even opted for COD since it largely deals with a voucher based system and wouldn't it further shrink margins if the firm physically collects(or gets it collected) small amounts that are even lower than Rs 100 for some deals.
Existing users can also log in to the WAP site by providing their log in details in the settings page and they are shown suitable deals automatically (on the basis of their preferences).
Snapdeal have kept the functioning of the mobile site very simple (most probably keeping the low end mobile phones in mind) and it offers a clean yet effective navigating experience. You can visit the WAP portal at www.snapdeal.com/m. Users also have the option of switching to the desktop site anytime they want. The e-commerce company has raised a total of $52 million in private capital from venture capitalists and has over 11 million registered users. In an interview with Techcircle, Kunal Bahl, founder and CEO of Snapdeal had said, "We have the highest traffic, compared to any other e-commerce site in India. In fact, we are the largest e-tailers in product categories like watches, sunglasses, personal care items, perfumes and jewellery."
