Galaxy Tab 730 Launched In India For Rs 30,900

After launching big brother Galaxy Tab 750 (also called Galaxy Tab 10.1), Samsung has further expanded its Tablet range by introducing Galaxy Tab 730 (also called Galaxy Tab 8.9) in the Indian market. Both the Tablets run on the Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) operating system (OS) and were first announced by the company way back in August this year.

On Samsung's official website, the Tablet has a best buy price of Rs 32,500, although online shopping sites like Flipkart are offering the Tablet at Rs 30,900 (Rs 1,600 cheaper).

The tablet comes with an 8.9inch TFT (1280×800) Plane to Line Switching (PLS) display screen and runs on the Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS (with Samsung's TouchWiz 4.0 user interface). It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and the internal memory of the device is 16GB.

Samsung has provided a 3 mega pixel auto focus rear camera that can also record high definition videos (720p) at 30 frames per second and a 2 mega pixel front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the Tablet has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G and it also comes with a USB 2.0 port. Additionally, the Tablet comes with pre-installed Google apps, supports Flash 10.1 and comes with 3D surround sound.

At 453 grams, the device is lighter (by 112grams) than its big brother and its dimensions are 230.9mm x 157.8mm x 8.6mm. Samsung has provided a 6100mAh battery in the Tablet that the company claims it will provide up to 1,750 (2G) and 1,480 (3G) hours of stand-by time. The Tablet is available in pure white and soft black colours.

The Tablet's competitors in the Indian market should include Acer's Iconia A500 (Rs 26,915) and W500 (Rs 31,990), Apple's iPad 2 (Rs 29,500), BlackBerry Playbook (Rs 32,990), Motorola XOOM (Rs 30,000), XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition (price not available) and HTC Flyer (Rs 36,900). Also, since Samsung's Galaxy Tab 750, that features a bigger screen (10.1 inch) and a more powerful battery (7000mAh), is available for Rs 34,000, a price difference of just Rs 3,100, it will also compete with its younger sibling.

Our Verdict

The Tablet scores fine as far as look and feel and specifications of the device are concerned. However, competing brands such as ASUS has already unveiled a Tablet with a quad-core processor (the Eee Pad Transformer Prime) and other companies are also doing the same, so if you are not in a hurry, you can skip this one and instead wait for Samsung's quad-core Tablet offering.

The quad-core Tablets will definitely be faster in terms of processor speed (four cores instead of two) and will also handle multitasking much better than a dual-core Tablet. Additionally, the quad-core processor will also come in handy while gaming.
